Vocab Pear helps you collect interesting words from the world around you and turn them into a study deck. Scan a page, tap a word, and save its definition โ then review everything with flashcards.
Open the Capture tab, type a word, and tap save. Vocab Pear fetches the definition automatically.
In the Capture tab, tap Scan Page and allow camera access. Take a photo of any text, then tap the highlighted words you'd like to save.
Select text anywhere on your device, tap Share, and choose Vocab Pear from the share sheet. The word is looked up and added to your library.
Open the Practice tab and swipe through your flashcards. Tap a card to flip between the word and its definition.
This usually means the word isn't in the dictionary as spelled โ check for typos, and try the base form of the word (for example, "run" instead of "running"). Proper nouns, slang, and very new words may not have an entry. Most words are defined instantly on your device; rarer words are looked up online, so an internet connection helps for those.
Make sure camera access is enabled in Settings โ Vocab Pear โ Camera. Good lighting and steady, clearly printed text give the best recognition results.
Open the Settings tab inside the app and choose a Second Language. Translations then appear alongside English definitions on your flashcards. The first time you use a new language, your device may take a moment to download its language pack.
Your vocabulary is stored locally on your device. It is not synced to the cloud, so deleting the app will remove your saved words. We recommend keeping the app installed to preserve your collection.
Open the Library tab, then swipe or use the delete control on any word to remove it.
No. There's no account and no tracking. Your words stay on your device, and only the individual word you look up is sent to the dictionary service to retrieve its definition. See our Privacy Policy for details.
Yes โ scanning, the builtโin dictionary, flashcards, pronunciation, and translations all work offline. Only rare words that aren't in the onโdevice dictionary need an internet connection to look up.
